Sophie-Marie George is a visual artist working primarily with photography and text. Her practice moves between autobiographical observation and intuitive image-making, often rooted in personal experiences of growing up, shifting identities, and the nuances of human relationships.
She completed her BA in Photography in 2022 at the University of Applied Sciences Bielefeld and is currently based in Leipzig, where she studies at the Academy of Fine Arts (HGB).
Her work engages with themes of intimacy, gendered and societal projections, and the quiet tension that exists between self-perception and external expectations.
George’s photographs often emerge from a reflective and process-driven approach, allowing theory and emotion to co-exist. Her projects are informed by ongoing critical engagement with contemporary discourse around identity, vulnerability, and belonging. Through soft gestures and fragmentary narratives, her images trace the emotional topography of youth and transformation.
